After high school I attended Iowa State University and received a degree in Landscape Architecture. Following graduation I went to work in the Design Section of the City of Omaha Planning Department as an entry level Planner. Over the years I held many positions within the department including over 14 years as Assistant Director and several stints as Acting Planning Director. I spent the last four years in charge of the department as Planning Director. I retired from the City of Omaha in 2009 and am now in private practice serving a variety of private and public sector clients. I am licensed as a Landscape Architect in Iowa and Nebraska and am also certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners. My wife Kathi and I have been married for 24 years. I have two step-children, Jason and Jana, and five grandchildren, Tyler, Riley, Katelyn, Taylor and Brooke. We are also very close with Jason and Jana's half-brother, Todd, who is much like a third child to us. My wife and I were foster parents for over 14 years and cared for nearly 100 children during that time. We remain close with half a dozen former foster sons and daughters and hear regularly from many more. Although my consulting practice keeps me very busy I do find time to do some traveling, fishing and hiking. I am expecting to cut back on my workload over the next several years and plan to spend more time gardening and playing golf in addition to my other interests.
