Jo Ann Nielson(Carlson) reports that Monica had congenital arthritis and was caught in a house fire and died of smoke inhalation at her home in Escondido, California.

Monica Jane Moe, AKA Miss Moe, longtime resident of Escondido and beloved daughter, sister, friend and teacher passed away on November 17, 2005.

She was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to her mother, Mildred and her father, Ralph. She joined siblings, Mary Kay, Margy, and John as their beloved baby sister. A lifelong learner, Monica pursued undergraduate degrees in elementary education and psychology and graduate degrees in divinity, counseling, and visual impairment orientation and mobility. In her professional life, she devoted herself to teaching the visually impaired.

In 2002, Monica won "Teacher of the Year" for the Nicolayson Center of the Escondido Union School District.To Monica, a student was a friend for life. Monica, a self-proclaimed "Trekkie," had a passion for roller coasters, the Beatles, Rock and Roll, thrift stores, doll houses, miniatures, mysteries and was the proud possessor of an annual Disneyland pass for many years.

Monica is remembered by her mother, all of her siblings, her beloved nieces and nephew, her aunt and uncle, and friends too numerous to mention.
