Joseph F. Hauser, Jr, 82, of Henderson, NV died Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Mountain View Hospital in Las Vegas, NV.

Born January 28, 1935, in Burlington, IA, he was the son of Joseph F., Sr. and Bernice Krabbe Hauser. On November 18th, 1972 he married Susan Kay Petersen in Council Bluffs, IA. She died September 15, 2015.

Mr. Hauser graduated from Burlington Catholic High School in 1953 where he was an outstanding basketball player. He went on to play basketball for, and graduate from, Burlington Junior College. He graduated from Iowa State Teacher’s College with a major in Physical Education.

After graduating from college, he was drafted into the Army where he trained as a medic and x-ray technician at Fort Sam Houston, TX. While stationed there, he played catcher for the base softball team. After being discharged from the Army, he taught for two years in New London, IA, then relocated to Council Bluffs, IA where he taught Biology and coached numerous sports at Abraham Lincoln High School for 35 years. Most notably, he was head boys track coach for 30 years and coached numerous state qualifiers and champions. He retired in 1997. Due to declining health, in 2015 Joe and his wife moved to Henderson, NV to live with their daughter and her family.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He spent many summers being a guide for his wife, children, and his brothers, sisters, and their families on fishing trips to the lakes in northern Minnesota. He was famous for his excellent fish frys. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include two brothers, Bernard Hauser (Mary) of Boulder City, NV, and Fr. Albert Hauser, OSB, St. Michael’s Church, Axtell, KS; two sisters, Mary Lewis (Franklin), Chatham, IL and Roberta Amenell, Burlington, IA; his children, Brian Hauser, Los Angeles, CA and Christine Hauser, Henderson, NV; grandchildren, Ellie and Sophie Rosenbaugh, Henderson, NV; sister-in-law, Patty Huber and husband Norm of Omaha, NE.; many nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held in honor of both Joe and Sue Hauser at Pizza King restaurant in Council Bluffs, IA on Saturday, April 8th from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. All friends and family, former students, co-workers, and community members whose lives were touched by these two wonderful souls are invited to come remember them, share stories, meet family and friends, and eat in an informal reunion setting.
