Gary L. Springer, age 60, of Council Bluffs, passed away December 19, 2012, at Mercy Hospital.

Gary was born September 11, 1952, in Council Bluffs to Jack B. and Jean (Mether) Springer. He graduated Abraham Lincoln High School in 1970. Gary served on the Council Bluffs Fire Department from 1980-2002, retiring as an engineer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack B. Springer in 2009; infant brother in 1954, and his first wife, Kathryn L. Springer in 2006.

He is survived by his wife of 2 years, Sue (Hewitt) Springer of Council Bluffs; sons, Joel (Jessica) Springer of Bellevue, Nebraska, Dan Springer of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Katelynn and Trevor Springer; mother, Jean Springer of Council Bluffs; brother, Earl (Debby) Springer of Houston, Texas; sisters, Cheryl Karnes of Dallas, Texas, Jeanne Hamilton of Omaha; stepsons, Kyle Whitney of St. Paul, Minnesota, Jeff Whitney of Omaha; step grandson, Jayden Whitney; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The body has been cremated; no viewing.
