After graduation from college, I taught 2nd grade for two years at Christian Elementary School in Springfield, Illinois. Then a temporary summer job for the state turned into a 30 1/2 year career. I retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation in December 2009. I met my husband at volleyball at church, and we got married in 1982. Since then we have built our home in the country and added on to it once. When we're home, we keep busy mowing, landscaping, and taking care of 2 horses, 2 dogs, and now 2 cats. A friend who worked for a publishing company asked me to write a book of bulletin board ideas, so I became an author. A couple years later my friend and I co-authored two more books. Gary & I are involved in several church activities and served as youth group sponsors. Almost every year since 1998, we have participated in mission trips to the Dominican Republic or Mexico. For our 25th wedding anniversary we decided to take a "real" vacation and went to Hawaii. We liked it so much that we went back again this summer with a group of friends. For the last couple of summers, after we upgraded from tent camping to a small vintage travel trailer, we have gone camping about once a month with some friends from church. We recently upgraded to a little larger travel trailer. My hobbies include reading, crafts, scrapbooking, gardening, swimming, and snow skiing.
