Salli Ann Looft Harmon age 69, passed away after a long battle with
Parkinson’s Disease on June 2, 2022. Salli was born August 24, 1952 to
Robert and Marylin (Jacobson) Looft in Story City, Iowa..
Salli was baptized September 28, 1952 at Bergen Lutheran Church in
Roland, IA, and confirmed her faith April 17, 1965 at St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church, Ames Ia. She had been a member of St. John Lutheran in
Clarinda, Ia, and was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran, Council
Bluffs.
She was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Marylin Looft,
grandparents, Nick and Lizzie Looft and Henry and Thora Jacobson,
brother-in-law Rodney Jahn, and nephew Matthew Jahn.
Growing up, she lived in several Iowa towns: Roland, Volga, Ruthven,
Clarinda, Ames, and Council Bluffs. She graduated in 1970 from Abraham
Lincoln H.S. in Council Bluffs, Iowa State University in Ames with her
BA, Buena Vista University, Council Bluffs Campus, with an additional
BA, and University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls with her MA degree.
Salli taught pre-school, elementary, and special education classes
in Rockford, IL, Missouri Valley, Clarinda, and Council Bluffs, IA for
35 years. She was devoted to teaching her young students, and there was
no career for which she was better suited.
She married Jim Harmon and found joy as mother to Luke Harmon and “Grammie” to Isaac and Baxter Harmon.
Salli loved music, counted cross-stitch, cheering for the Cyclones and spending time with family.
She is survived by step-son Luke Harmon, Isaac and Baxter Harmon and
their mother Lisa Harmon, all of Moscow, ID, sisters and
brothers-in-law, Nanci and Jim Harskamp of Sioux Center, IA; Diane and
Bob Machmuller of Council Bluffs, nieces and nephews Kyle (Lynne) Jahn
and Emily (Robbie) Cundy all of Sioux Center, Andrew (Colene) Jahn,
Ireton, IA; Suzy Jahn of Phoenix ;Chris (JoAnn) Machmuller and Amy (JT)
Waggoner, all of Council Bluffs, and Sarah (Jonathan) Kramer, of
Sergeant Bluff, IA; aunt, Betty Opsal of Clive, IA; and numerous cousins
and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation Sunday 1:00pm to 2:00pm followed by funeral service at
2:00pm all at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. A meal and fellowship will
follow at the Walnut Hill Reception Center. Interment 9:00am Monday at
Ridgewood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the St. Paul’s Lutheran
Early Childhood Center and the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Organ Fund,
both in Council Bluffs, IA.
