Dennis was born April 16, 1951, in Council Bluffs, to the late Russell C. and Helen (Caster) Madsen. He graduated Abraham Lincoln High School in 1970 and married Katherine Messinger on June 2, 1973, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Council Bluffs. They were blessed with two daughters, Michelle and Lynn.

Dennis worked at ASARCO for 30 years and after retirement for Pinnacle Lawn Service. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Norman Reed; and sister-in-law, Donna Madsen.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 40 years, Katherine Madsen, of Council Bluffs; daughters, Michelle (Bart) Shaw, of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Lynn Madsen, of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Nicholas and Danielle Cook, of Ft. Wayne; siblings, Ray (Pat) Madsen, Mildred (Jerry) Corey, Chuck Madsen, Don Madsen, Eileen Reed, all of Council Bluffs, Alice (Herb) Gawehn, of Des Moines, Iowa, Mary (Jim) Wayman, of Council Bluffs, Patty (Pat) McGranahan, Steve (Sharon) Madsen, of Council Bluffs, Rita (R.J.) Seaman, of Kirkman, Iowa, Tom (Michele) Madsen, of Omaha, Neb., Dan Madsen, of Council Bluffs; many nieces and nephews.

Recitation of the Rosary Thursday, 6 p.m., followed by visitation with the family until 8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, 11 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery with a lunch following at Holy Family Church. The family will direct memorials.
